Free NHS Meningitis B Vaccine for Students 2026:

The Department of Health & Social Care has announced that eligible young people will be able to receive the Meningitis B vaccine free of charge through the NHS at Pharmacies during July and August 2026.

Who can have the free NHS Meningitis B vaccine?

The free NHS vaccination programme will be available to:

  • All Year 13 students born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008.
  • Young people born on or after 21 July 2001 and starting as undergraduates at university for the first time in Autumn 2026.
  • Young people born on or after 21 July 2001 living in further education accommodation or halls of residence for the first time in Autumn 2026.

Important: Post-graduate students or students starting their second (or later) year are not eligible for the free NHS programme.

If you are not eligible for this free NHS service, you can still receive the vaccine privately with us (charges apply) – see below.

How many doses are needed?

The Meningitis B vaccine requires two doses, given at least 28 days apart.

For the best protection, both doses should ideally be completed before the start of the academic year in September 2026.

When will the free NHS service start?

The NHS booking system will open on 13th July 2026.

Appointments for the free NHS vaccine are available from 20th July 2026.

How do I book the free NHS vaccine?

All bookings for the free NHS Meningitis B vaccine need to be done through the NHS website. This opens on 13th July 2026, and appointments are available from 20th July 2026.

Click here to book your free NHS Meningitis B vaccine: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/vaccination-and-booking-services/book-menb-vaccination/

Please do not book a private vaccination appointment through our website if you are intending to receive the vaccine through the free NHS programme.

Will I be contacted if I’m eligible?

Yes. Eligible individuals will be contacted directly by the NHS through one of the following methods:

  • NHS App
  • Text message
  • Email
  • Letter

The method used will depend on the contact details held by the health service.

Can I still get vaccinated if I am not eligible for the free NHS vaccine?

Yes. Unfortunately, post-graduate students or students starting their second (or later) year are not eligible for the free NHS programme.

If you are not eligible for this free NHS service, you can still receive the vaccine privately with us (charges apply) – see below.

You can book your appointment for the Private vaccine through the Badham Pharmacy booking portal below. You cannot book the free NHS vaccines through this.

Please note: If you are eligible for a free vaccine but book and attend a vaccination appointment before the NHS programme launches, you will be booking a private vaccination and will be charged accordingly.
