  • Dispense prescriptions in accordance within legal and ethical guidelines. This includes reordering of ethical stock, supervising the dispensing assistants and general supervision of the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the dispensary.
  • Check dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled, supervising the preparation of any medicines which require making up.
  • Ensure accurate dispensing of drugs at all times following Company SOPS, Policies and GPhC directives and guidelines.
  • Report dispensing errors immediately and accurately following company and GPhC directives and guidelines. Manage dispensing assistants and pharmacy technicians in reporting the same.
  • Keep a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes.
  • Liaison with GP’s and other medical professionals about prescriptions.
  • Selling over the counter medicines.
  • Advising patients on the treatment of minor ailments
  • Advising patients of any adverse side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines and treatments.

Services to Nursing Homes and Residential Homes

  • Dispense regular medication on monthly basis in containers or monitored dosage system as agreed with home.
  • Pharmacist check weekly trays before delivery and oversee that Technicians ensure boxes are clean and trays and back sheets correct each week before delivery.
  • Visits to homes to be made regularly to review medicine usage/storage and advice offered.
  • Ensure all sundry items correctly allocated to accounts.
  • Ensure all MAR sheets printed to accurately reflect dosage required.
  • Ensure additional labels are provided with short term and new medication to allow homes to up date MAR sheets.
  • Order prescriptions where necessary.
  • Dispense and check all medication as per GPhC requirements.

Stock

  • Clear invoices against advice notes and goods delivered.
  • Claim credits due. Deal with damaged and short deliveries.
  • Operate the stock control and stocktaking procedures.
  • Keep dispensary stock on budget.

Enhanced Service Provision

  • Undertaking Medicine Use Reviews (MUR)
  • Managing a needle and syringe supply
  • Monitoring and offering advice on blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  • Offering a diabetes screening service; weight management and alcohol consumption advice; providing healthy living advice and guidance.

Customer Service

  • Develop and maintain good customer relations.
  • Deal with complaints, queries, credits and replacements.
  • Develop new business including developing relationships with Doctors surgeries and local nursing and rest homes.
  • Follow sales procedures when selling to customers.

Staff

  • Undertake staff appraisals and assess performance
  • Assist with staff training
  • Control and direct the work of the pharmacy team
  • Assist and support other pharmacists and branch retail managers
  • Encourage effective team work and problem solving
  • Ensure the Health & Wellbeing of staff
